I want to share something that's been on my mind a lot since returning to this industry.
The conversations I have with viewers now are so different from what I experienced when I first started making content twenty-five years ago. Back then, the interactions were more straightforward—people were excited to be chatting with a “real woman” or “girl-next-door” who was making XXX.
Now, I'm having different interactions because I’m an older and experienced woman and the viewers have grown up with the internet and access to XXX. The exchanges are much more nuanced and varied.
Then vs. Now: A Tale of Two Eras
Having two separate chapters in this business has been enlightening. When I was creating content in my twenties, I fit society's narrow definition of what was considered attractive—young and thin. Even though my style was more natural than mainstream porn at the time (smaller breasts, minimal makeup, not removing all my hair down there), I was still working within accepted boundaries of desirability.
Now I'm much older than most current performers and industry professionals, and I can see how dramatically everything has changed. The entire structure is different as is what is interesting to the fans, viewers, and subscribers.
In 1998, the amateur world operated completely independently from studio productions. Those of us creating content as couples or solo performers handled everything ourselves—website design, hosting, billing, and camera work. Many of us worked alongside our partners, building these businesses from the ground up together.
Back then, older women had minimal opportunities in mainstream adult entertainment. Women over 40 were primarily found in amateur content, tucked away in niche corners. Today, there is much more visibility for mature performers, although it comes with its own set of dynamics that I’m still learning about it.
The landscape has shifted in ways I never could have imagined, and I'm still processing what it all means. There's so much more to explore about how we navigate desire, taboo, and representation in this new era—questions that deserve their own deeper conversation.
Next week, I'll delve into the complex dynamics of age and attraction in today's adult entertainment landscape, as well as the questions that keep me up at night about where we're headed.
Entering my teens in the early 60s, I have seen ebbs and flows in the past 3 1/2 decades. I am very interested in your thoughts
